Gas vs. Electric Water Heaters

Which is right for you? hotwater

Water heaters typically don’t get much attention until they break.  When you turn on the faucet to wash your hands, do the dishes, or to take a shower, you generally don’t think about how that water is heated.  If you’re in the market for a new water heater, here are some things to consider when deciding to choose gas or electric.

In a storage tank water heater, the hot water is siphoned off of the top and cold water is introduced at the bottom to replace it. Depending on your needs, the amount of time it takes to warm that cold water may be important.

  • A gas water heater will heat faster than an electric.
  • When considering efficiency, the electric is slightly more efficient because there is not heat lost by the warming element through ventilation.
  • Gas is typically cheaper in cost than electricity, making a gas water heater less expensive to operate.

Water heater technology and efficiency is continuously improving. If your water heater is around 10-15 years old, you may be ready for a replacement.

There are variables in selecting the best type of water heater and the size of the water heater, and the only way we can confidentially recommend which is best for you needs is to ask that you give us a call and talk with one of our experienced and knowledgeable team members.
