Sump Pumps & Battery Backup Systems
What is a sump pump and how does it work?
In Wisconsin, the most common type of sump pump is called a submersible pump. It sits in a specially dug crock (aka a pit or basin) in the part of your basement where the water is most likely to collect first. When the crock starts to fill with water, it will activate a float on the pump that turns the pump on. As the water goes down, so does the float arm and the pump is turned off. This allows the pump to only run when it is needed.
How do I know if I need a new sump pump?
The lifespan of a sump pump will vary by how much it is used. If you live in a marshy area or at the bottom of a hill, your pump will be used much more than a house on a hill. Dave Jones, Inc. can check your sump pump system to determine the working condition. When it’s time to take action, we can discuss options with you. We can also install an alarm system that will alert you if your sump pump should be running but has not turned on. Newer notification systems can even send a text message to your phone!
Why do I need a battery backup?
When the power goes out, it is usually due to severe weather. Which is usually also the time when you really need your sump pump to be working. Don’t take the risk, have a battery backup installed.

Q: Do you install the crock?
A: We only install the sump pump, accessories, and the discharge line. Typically, the crock is made when the home is built.
Q: My sump pump system is sealed and has a radon meter, can you still do a tune-up and replacement?
A: Yes, we will unseal the crock temporarily to perform the service, then reseal before we go.
Q: How often should I replace the deep cycle battery on my battery back up system?
A: It is recommended to replace your battery every two years. Dave Jones, Inc. can replace yours with the correct size and style and recycle the old one.
Q: What’s the best protection for the value?
A: A battery back-up combo system is the best protection for the value.
