Hard water is more hardcore than you might think, pun intended! A water softener is usually a staple appliance, but if you don’t have one, or the one you do have is operating improperly, hard water can cause havoc on your plumbing and fixtures.
Benefits of a water softener:
Soap and detergents don’t suds up well in hard water. If you notice your shampoo isn’t lathering as well as it used to, it might be due to hard water, or you may have accidentally grabbed the conditioner by mistake!
The minerals that make hard water, well… hard, can bind to the fibers in your clothing. This is particularly noticeable if you hang your clothing to dry.
Those minerals clump together to create what’s called a “scale”, which is that white crusty stuff that builds up on your faucets, showerheads, or in your toilet. Less scale in your water = less cleaning! Who doesn’t love the sound of that?!
The scale you see on your faucets got there through the plumbing. The composition of soft water has less scale, so there is less to build up in your pipes and appliances, resulting in increased longevity on your piping, pipe fittings, and fixtures.
Ok, soft water won’t actually add “sparkle” to your dishes, but the soft water does mean that your dishwasher has a chance to work properly. A customer recently called to tell us that after having her water softener replaced and no other changes, there was significantly less residue on her dishes.
